How can typing and creating content for a blog help you learn English? This is the question in everyone’s mind. I want to learn speaking English, not writing English.
Well, writing and speaking function in similar way. First we create then we transmit. In the case of speaking, first we speak in our minds then we speak with our listeners. In the case of writing, first we speak in our minds then we write it down. I can say that writing helps you to speak better. The best way to do it is by writing your own blog. This is the reason why ESL Saigon was born.
Writing gives you plenty of time to check dictionary for new words, grammar, sentence structure etc. You use the words you have already learned as well as new words which means writing helps you incorporate new words in your vocabulary baggage. When you have opportunity to speak to someone you will speak better because you know more words.
What should I write about on my blog?
The best way is to start with your own life. A daily diary is a great beginning because you can incorporate the words and grammar you learned in a context that is familiar to you. A familiar context helps you remember things better.
Definitely, writing can not replace speaking but I personally consider writing being a “vitamin” for speaking.
